Why I teach

Learning Norwegian helps you feel at home in Norway.

It’s true, most Norwegians speak English at a high level. However, English is rarely the language we use to truly express ourselves. To understand the culture, join conversations naturally, and build real connections, speaking Norwegian makes a big difference.

I’m Mads, a Norwegian teacher from Son, a small coastal village just outside Oslo. Before I started teaching full-time, I studied plant biology and spent much of my time outdoors, while also developing a strong interest in languages and communication.

During my studies, I discovered that teaching was the part of my work that gave me the most energy. I enjoyed breaking difficult things down, finding patterns, and helping people move from confusion to confidence. That eventually led me to Norwegian teaching, first alongside my studies, and later as my full-time work.

My lessons are practical, calm, and structured. I’m especially interested in helping learners understand how Norwegian is actually used in everyday life. The rhythm of the language, the small expressions people use all the time, and the cultural details that rarely appear in textbooks.

Outside of teaching, I’m usually drawn toward nature, languages, running, and anything that lets me learn something new. Norskprat is my way of combining those interests: clear Norwegian, real topics, and a teaching style that helps learners feel more comfortable and confident in the language.
